Heavy Guerrilla is a Northwest marketing, strategy and branding consultancy. Heavy Guerrilla was formed in 2008 by Seattle area marketing professional, Jerry Suhrstedt. The name Heavy Guerrilla was born out of the “Take it to the street” attitude that Jerry wanted this new marketing agency to have. The concept of guerrilla marketing was invented as an unconventional system of promotions that relies on time, energy, and imagination rather than a big marketing budget. Typically, guerrilla-marketing campaigns are unexpected and unconventional, potentially interactive, and target consumers in unexpected places. The objective of guerrilla marketing is to create a unique, engaging, and thought-provoking concept to generate buzz, and consequently take advantage of the viral nature of social media. While Heavy Guerrilla employs guerrilla marketing tactics as part of a client’s marketing plan, this is but one aspect of their arsenal to grow a business.
After spending three years in radio broadcasting as an “on-air” personality in the Seattle market, Jerry launched several startup ventures in the sporting goods and home building markets from 1990 through 2000. Jerry launched branded products in sporting goods, ventures which were acquired by International public companies. His 10 years of experience in residential home building launched one of the most successful, production, custom home building companies in the Northwest, ranking 6th Place of Washington’s 100 Fastest Growing Companies for 2006.
For over 20 years, Jerry has attacked his ventures with a very marketing-centric approach. He has consulted many Northwest companies and worked with them to shore up their marketing & sales strategies, while helping them to deliver substantial growth through “Out-of-the-box” marketing methods. Over the years of working with companies and launching new products, Jerry saw a need for comprehensive marketing planning, marketing strategies, and some real “out-of-the-box” thinking within Northwest-based startups and high-growth companies.
Jerry says, “I noticed that many companies in the $1 to $20 million annual sales range, were simply wingin’ it. No marketing plan, no marketing strategy, no nothing, using a strategy that I call the marketing gimmick of the month. Many companies from 1996 to 2006 were just plain lucky that the economy was strong, and so most of these businesses were successful by virtue of existence. That strategy no longer works.”
Jerry knew that in order to grow a company or product in 2010, you need to start with a strong marketing plan, a unique marketing strategy, and then you need to have a very compelling product offering that truly fills a need. Then all of that must be tactically driven, by creating high-impact, compelling visual marketing in the form of sales collateral, web presence, and advertising.
